9-0...and rolling

November 15, 2011 5:58 pm
The Pack continue to roll right along with the offense dominating and the defense certainly begining to pick it up.  Although many pundits continue to say the Thanksgiving game will be the railroad to a perfect season (and let's be clear, it is still way early to be thinking perfection), I am seeing the Giants in New York as the toughest game remaining on the schedule.  The Pack is basically built to upend all dome teams.  Wouldn't be surprised to see them handle the Lions fairly comfortably, especially if Stafford is injured.  But a December game in New York, not to mention the Giants pass rush, can slow the offense down.  In any event, great to see them keep on churning.

9-0...and rolling

November 15, 2011 9:40 pm
Last night, as the Green Bay Packers were rolling over the Minnesota Vikings, not only with a superb offense, but also with a dominant defense, the entire NFL said, collectively, "Oh-oh! We're in trouble." When the Packers were just a dynamic offense, but sporting a defense that bent at times, broke at other times, and sometimes just wept, everyone else saw that Green Bay had an Achilles heel. "They can be beat if we can just limit turnovers and force a few of our own. If we can just get them outdoors, on the road, and after a short week. If we can just catch a few lucky breaks, a few dropped passes, etc. we'll be able to score on their defense and win."

Now that the Packers have shown that their defense is getting past the season-ending injury to Nick Collins (my theory as to why the pass defense was so bad), the rest of the NFL is worried. Now the talk about an undefeated season will escalate. The talk about potential MVP candidate Aaron Rodgers will continue, but people will start saying, "1972 Miami Dolphins, move over." I still think they will lose a game or two before the regular season is over, but it won't happen next week and probably not on Thanksgiving Day.

The end result may still probably be something short of a Super Bowl victory for Green Bay (just because it's so hard to win it all, even if you're the favorite), but the conversation will change. Now everyone knows that the Packer defense is showing signs of returning to last year's late season form. And everyone is collectively saying, "Oh-oh! Oh, no!! I don't believe it. We're in deep trouble!" Yes, I know it was the Vikings, but that's the same team that almost beat Green Bay a couple of weeks earlier.
